DupeBlocker Basics

What Is DupeBlocker?

DupeBlocker is a real time deduplication tool developed 100% on the new Force.com platform using the new APEX development environment.  This product can be downloaded from the Force.com AppExchange and can be installed directly into your Salesforce application.  Once installed and configured, DupeBlocker will stop and/or warn end users when they are entering duplicates.  Duplicates to Accounts, Contacts and Leads can all be detected as well as Lead to Contact and Lead to Account matches.

Starting with version 2, DupeBlocker allows matching on any field in Salesforce including custom fields.  This version also adds the ability to auto-merge or auto-convert duplicates in addition to blocking the insertion of the new record or creating a warning to flag the records as duplicates.  Lastly, Scenarios can now be customized to include filters to limit when they will be triggered.  Filters can be based on specific fields within the object itself, or based on the attributes of the current Salesforce user who is inserting or updating a record.

DupeBlocker is designed to work for any SINGLE insert/update to Salesforce, including records inserted/updated directly through the Salesforce user interface and Web to Lead inserts.  It will NOT trigger blocks or warnings for batch inserts/updates (i.e. third party API applications that process inserts/updates in batch mode, Salesforce Data Loader or Import Wizard), but the duplicate keys created to detect duplicates will be kept up to date.

Note:  DupeBlocker will work with Person Accounts, however, additional configuration steps are required to function properly.
